Thanks for visiting my website. If you don’t already know me, I’m a photographer and astronomer, based in North East England.
Hello, I’m Gary and I run Stargazing Nights. I just wanted to say, first of all, that if you can’t currently see the event you’ve booked on the website, don’t worry. We’re just suspending new bookings, until we know they can definitely go ahead on the planned date (and they will absolutely go ahead, then or as soon as it’s safe to do so).
When I’m not taking photographs, observing the night sky, or spending time with my family, I run stargazing and photography events. You’ll find the current line-up, under the ‘Events’ tab.
I’m a qualified teacher (Cert.Ed. & PGCE) with over 30 years’ experience in science education. I’m also a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
But enough about me. You didn’t come here to read my C.V. You want to know how I can help you learn more about the night sky.
We always run events in interesting locations, many of which aren’t usually accessible in the dark. People enjoy this aspect immensely. But every site we use is surveyed thoroughly, to make sure it’s among the darkest in the country.
Most of the people who attend our events are fascinated by the night sky, but don’t yet have a working knowledge. They might know one or two constellations, maybe a few more, perhaps none at all. That all changes after a clear night with us.
We’ll start with an indoor demonstration where you can learn how to observe stars, with little or no equipment. After that, we’ll head outside and I’ll give you a guided tour of everything you can see.
You’ll also have the chance to use your phone to take photographs of the location and yourselves, as we light it up with powerful torches.
We’ll do everything we can to create a memorable experience for you and your loved ones. You’ll leave knowing a great deal more about stargazing than the majority of people.
